Getting started
Your first video
From installing the app to a link you can send: write a short story, rehearse it, record it in a real browser and share it.
1. Install the app
Download the desktop app for macOS or Windows from the download page. StoryCapture is in private beta; request access if you are not in it yet.
2. Write a first story
Create a project for the site you want to record and open its story. Start small: one scene, three or four steps. Each line is one step, and polish like a zoom sits under the step it belongs to.
story "My first demo" {
meta {
app: "https://app.example.com"
viewport: 1440x900
}
scene reports "Open the reports" {
navigate "https://app.example.com/dashboard"
click <link> "Reports"
zoom standard
say "Reports show last week at a glance."
}
}Rather not write it? Let Claude, Cursor or VS Code write it for you: use with AI clients. Every line is in the story reference.
3. Rehearse it
Run the simulator. It runs every line against the live page and marks where the pointer will land, before anything is recorded. When a line names something the page does not have, it says which scene and line to fix.
4. Record
Record the story. A real browser plays it while native capture records the window, and private fields are masked from the first frame. On a Mac, allow screen recording the first time the app asks.
5. Export
Export an MP4, WebM or GIF in 16:9, square or vertical, with captions and chapters in the file.
6. Share one link
Sign in to the web app from the desktop app and upload the video. It gets a watch page with a chapter for each scene, private to your workspace until you share the link. When the product changes, edit the line, re-record that scene and upload again: the same link plays the new version.
